THE LONG STORY
If you skipped over the short story, I'll catch you up. The story of River Rain centers around a desire to build and create. We are a husband-and-wife team with a common goal of finding happiness and fulfillment in our daily work.
While I've always enjoyed making things, I officially began woodworking after watching an episode of Homestead Alaska. Basically, I was both inspired by their craftsmanship, and embarrassed by the lack of my own (more on that at www.branthebuilder.com). Natalia, while a scientist by trade, has always been a talented artist. She painted an amazing 80 square foot Peter Pan mural in our son's nursery! So, together, we form a dynamic artist/craftsman duo.
We started this pursuit in October of 2017 after I was laid off from my job installing handrails and balconies--the proverbial "push". I remember saying "I'm going to be one of those people who says getting laid off was the best thing that ever happened to me." I was let go at 9:00am on a Monday, and by that evening, we had officially organized River Rain LLC and begun this exciting journey.
But why did we name our business River Rain?
Both in the name and the motivation, our business is inspired by our children: Harrison River and Matheson Rain.
Harrison is named after fellow carpenter, Harrison Ford. We chose River because we love the outdoors, especially the water. It turned out to be the perfect name for him, he's such a Harrison! We also considered another name inspired by the park where we fell in love, and ultimately got married: Matheson Hammock County Park in Coral Gables, Florida. We decided that should we have a little girl, her name would be Matheson Rain, and we'd call her Mattie.
On that day in October when we formed the business, it was my wife's idea to name the business River Rain Custom Woodwork, after the kids. She even designed our logo. But, not only did we not know the gender of our next baby, we weren't even pregnant at the time! Still, we loved the name, so we went for it.
In February 2018, we found out we were pregnant, and in May 2018 we found out the baby on the way was a little girl. Finally, in October 2018, little Mattie Rain joined our world. So, we named our business after a child we didn't even have yet, and it all worked out.
Sometimes you just get lucky...
